Teacher for Otter an Orca classes
Miss Candy came of age in San Francisco. I have fond memories of feeding the buffalo at Golden Gate Park, the Pocket Lady at Playland at the Beach (a role I reprised for nearly 20 years at Olympia Waldorf School's Winter Faire), and wandering the grassy hills of Bernal Heights and McLaren Park.
In second grade I began tutoring kindergarten students, and ever since then I've been working with children. In middle school I began tutoring special needs students, and continued to do so until I was a junior in High School.
After college I worked in various childcare settings, receiving training in High Scope, Montessori, and R.I.E. methods of caring for and educating the young child. Once a parent of my own children, I stumbled across Waldorf education and received training in that method of education, as well. I was formerly the Apple Blossom pre-school teacher and the Rosebud Parent-tot teacher at OWS. My daughter is a 4th grade teacher in Olympia, and my son is a writer/editor/fulltime traveler. I have worked with children from birth-19 years old...with special needs children...with high school students....children with cancer...children in foster care (my husband and I are in process of becoming foster parents, as well)....and with each and every child, I find that they are MY teachers, more than I could ever have imagined.
I look forward to serving the families of Steamboat Island Cooperative Preschool!
